Review Q1 2026: Spotify install reach drops from 85% among 16–24-year-olds to 63% among over-55s, while Amazon Music skews toward 35–54-year-olds at ~44% — the inverse age pattern in Q1 2026.

Spotify commands a dominant install-base reach at every age cohort among German adults, but its 22-percentage-point drop from the youngest to the oldest group reveals that even the market leader has an ageing-audience challenge. Amazon Music tells the opposite story: a near-flat 28% reach among 16–24-year-olds rises sharply to 43–45% in the 35–54 bracket — a pattern almost certainly driven by Amazon Prime bundling rather than standalone music preference.
Amazon Prime penetration in Germany is highest among 30–50-year-olds, the cohort most likely to own a smart speaker or Echo device and to treat Amazon Music as a bundled convenience rather than a deliberate streaming choice. For younger podcast listeners aged 16–34, Spotify's freemium model and youth-brand identity translate directly into the 80%+ install rates visible in this chart. YouTube Music shows a more uniform age curve across all bands, consistent with its role as a passive default install. For media planners targeting younger German podcast listeners and audio-streaming audiences, Spotify remains the dominant platform; for the 35–54 bracket, Amazon Music's reach is a meaningful secondary channel.

Install-base reach is measured as the share of browsing-active adults in each age group who had Spotify, YouTube Music, or Amazon Music installed or actively used at any point through Q1 2026. Each age band (16–24, 25–34, 35–44, 45–54, 55+) is independently projected to the German adult online population for that band using demographic calibration on remaining dimensions. All age-band cells for the three apps shown meet the threshold for a reliable population projection. Deezer and ARD Audiothek are excluded from this chart because at least one of their age-band cells fell below that threshold.
