Analysis

Despite following news accounts and consuming news regularly, German TikTok users dedicate minimal screen time to news relative to their overall TikTok diet. News accounts comprise a median of only 0.4% of weekly views—with most users clustering between 0.2% and 0.8% (interquartile range). The finding underscores TikTok's fundamental identity as an entertainment-first platform where news remains a supplementary, not primary, content category even for engaged news followers.
