Analysis

Amazon's Black Friday/Cyber Week — the 11-day window from November 21 to December 1, 2025 — produced the single largest sustained order surge across all categories on Amazon.de, lifting daily order volume to roughly 1.7× the 15-month median. Secondary peaks appeared during Prime Day (July 2025) and Big Deal Days (October 2025), confirming that German shoppers reliably concentrate purchasing around Amazon's Rabattaktionen calendar. The Spring Sale 2026 window (March 25–31) is the clear outlier: the orange band is nearly invisible against surrounding non-promo days — the first promotional window in this dataset to produce no lift.

When Germany's biggest promo lost its pull

The Spring Sale 2026 muting arrives in a softening context. Amazon's 2026 Big Spring Sale grew only 3% year-on-year globally, a sharp deceleration from the prior year's 25%+ jump. Only 24% of observed product categories deepened discounts versus 2025, and only 13% increased the share of discounted products — down from 96% the year before. Shallower deals appear to have broken the Pavlovian response German shoppers showed across all five 2025 windows. For brands and retailers, the implication is direct: the promo signal alone no longer guarantees a lift — deal depth and visibility must accompany the event badge.

Methodology

Daily Amazon.de order counts for German shoppers are indexed so that 100 equals the median daily volume over the full 15-month observation window (January 2025 – March 2026). The chart shows raw daily values (faint) and a 7-day centred moving average (darker) against five Amazon promotional windows sourced from Amazon's public calendar. The Spring Sale 2026 window follows the same March 25–31 dates as 2025.
