Analysis

During Amazon Prime Day 2025, mean basket value on Amazon.de rose 33% compared to the pre-event week, showing that German shoppers didn't just order more frequently — they spent more per order. The median basket also climbed, confirming the uplift was broad-based and not driven by a handful of high-value outliers.

Higher-ticket purchases, not just stockpiling

Globally, Prime Day 2025 analysis found that shoppers deferred pricier purchases for the event, with items in the €100–€400 range over-indexing significantly in share of sales. The German basket data aligns with this: Prime Day functioned as a permission structure for higher-spend decisions, not a simple volume-driver. Post-event, basket values contracted back toward the pre-event level — and the 2026 baseline (measured across early 2026) sits below Prime Day peaks, underscoring how distinctly the event inflates per-order spend. With Prime Day 2026 now confirmed for June 23–26 in Germany — moved earlier than usual to avoid the FIFA World Cup window — brands in premium electronics and home categories have a clear incentive to lead with their highest-margin SKUs during the event days. The category share shifts on Prime Day reveal which product segments absorbed most of that elevated spend.

Methodology

Basket value is calculated as the total spend per order on Amazon.de, then summarised as both mean and median across all orders within each defined period: pre-event (the week before Prime Day 2025), Prime Day (July 8–11, 2025), post-event (the week after), and a 2026 baseline covering early 2026. Physical product orders with a positive order value are included.
