# Heat-Category Purchase Incidence, Summer 2026 > Heat-relevant purchase incidence reached 10.1% of active online buyers in the peak heatwave week of June 22–28 +53% vs. baseline **Period:** June–August 2026 **Market:** DE **Data status:** final **Data as of:** 2026-08-09T06:02:36.808425+00:00 **Sample size:** n = 7,911 **Source:** [https://www.datapods.app/en/insights/consumption/online-shopping/hitzewelle-kaufbereitschaft-online-sommer-2026](https://www.datapods.app/en/insights/consumption/online-shopping/hitzewelle-kaufbereitschaft-online-sommer-2026) ## Segments - **Years:** 2026 - **Platform:** purchases - **Product categories:** hg-9-1-1, hg-9-1-5, hg-9-1-6, hb-3-2-9-15, fb-1-16, fb-1-12, fb-1-13, fb-1-5, fb-1-7 ## Summary One in ten active German online buyers purchased a fan, air conditioner, sun-care product, or cold beverage in the single peak heatwave week — roughly double the 4.2–6.6% rate seen in surrounding weeks of summer 2026. The conversion from browsing intent to completed purchase is striking given the simultaneous sell-out of cooling hardware in physical stores. ## Online as the Last Resort for Cooling Goods As temperatures surpassed 40°C across much of Germany on June 27–28, portable air conditioners sold out at brick-and-mortar retailers and on platforms such as Alibaba's European storefront. Online channels absorbed displaced demand: JD.com's European platform Joybuy reported air-conditioner sales surging nearly 40 times during the June 19–25 window versus the first week of June. With only around 3% of German homes air-conditioned, the record heatwave forced first-time buyers into the online market, lifting purchase incidence well above seasonal norms. Cooling appliances drove the steepest category-level jump — see the [sub-category breakdown](slug:hitzewelle-klimageraete-ventilatoren-kaufrate-anstieg-2026) for the full picture. ## Chart Line chart showing the weekly share of active online buyers purchasing heat-relevant products (cooling appliances, sun care, cold beverages) from June 1 to August 2, 2026, peaking at 10.1% in the week of June 22–28. ## Methodology Weekly share of active German online buyers who completed at least one purchase in heat-relevant categories — cooling appliances (fans, air conditioners, evaporative coolers), sun care, and cold beverages — from June 1 to August 2, 2026. Payment events are excluded so only confirmed product transactions are counted. The final week of the window is excluded due to a data refresh lag affecting buyer counts. ## Citation Datapods (2026-08-09). *Heat-Category Purchase Incidence, Summer 2026*.
